Worship

Rev. James Forbes

Each day will begin and end with worship. Rev. James Forbes, pastor emeritus of Riverside will open the Gathering at 2 pm on Tuesday. Colin Saxton, a Quaker minister from Oregon and Bishop Gayle Harris of the Episcopal Archdiocese of Massachusetts will offer messages in morning services. Music will lift our voices and hearts, while generous periods of silent worship will ground and center us as we listen for the guidance of the Spirit. Participants will join together each day in “anchor groups” to reflect on how the Spirit is moving in each person and among them. Creating a sacred space for deepening and strengthening the experience and movement of the Gathering. In each session, designated persons will be praying that we may hear and respond to God's voice. A space will be set aside in the heart of the meeting place where participants can retire for prayer and reflection at any time during the Gathering. In addition, a group of pastoral caregivers will be available to those desiring support in the spiritual and emotional challenges raised by the movement of the Spirit through the Gathering. For the past year the Peace Gathering has been held in ever widening circles of prayer. We ask you to prepare for the event by undertaking a practice of prayer for the Gathering, for yourself that your heart and mind will be opened to God's transforming power, and for deep, sustaining peace in our world.
